VNU President Hoang Minh Son: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities should place greater focus on resources, motivation, and development space to achieve breakthroughs.

This was one of the key remarks made by the newly appointed President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), Hoang Minh Son, during a working session with the extended leadership of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), VNU, on the afternoon of September 16, 2025. President Hoang Minh Son emphasized that social sciences and humanities play a vital role as one of the core pillars in the development strategy of VNU and Vietnamese higher education.

In his report at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan – Rector of USSH – highlighted five major directions for the university’s development. He stated that restructuring the organizational apparatus is a prerequisite to ensuring autonomy, flexibility, and international integration. Fostering and attracting talent is a strategic solution to building a strong academic team capable of meeting research and teaching demands in the digital era.

The development plan for academic disciplines and training programs will focus on multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity, and internationalization, while fundamental sciences will move toward application to provide highly qualified human resources for the nation’s era of advancement. Promoting international publications will help the university affirm its academic standing and enhance competitiveness in global university rankings.

Furthermore, a sustainable financial strategy will serve as a foundation for the university to proactively develop infrastructure, expand research activities, and strengthen both domestic and international collaboration. Finally, the orientation of “humanizing technology and technologizing the humanities” is considered a distinctive highlight, reflecting the trend of interdisciplinary integration and aiming to train a generation of students who are not only rich in humanistic knowledge but also proficient in and capable of mastering technology.
